ARTUR BORUC OPENED PANDORA'S BOX OF SCOTLAND'S SHAME

By Mal Content

Approximately 72 hours have passed since Artur Boruc revealed his “God Bless The Pope” T-shirt in the immediate aftermath of Celtic's 3-2 humping of the Huns and by doing so deliberately or inadvertently exposed the putrid core of “Scotland's Shame”.

Not since the contemptible desecration by Hearts fans of the minute's silence at Hampden Park for the death of Pope John Paul II and the UEFA guilty-of-sectarianism verdict on Rangers fans has “Scotland's Shame” been so globally exposed.

Good God, Artur, you opened Scotland's Pandora's Box, didn't you?

It's just a shame it's not Tartan Week in New York as our establishment leaders, hangers-on and junket junkies would have been forced to explain why so many of the population of ‘The Best Small Country In The World' have been ‘incensed', ‘offended', ‘outraged' and ‘provoked' by the image of the late Pontiff on a T-shirt accompanied by the message “God Bless The Pope”.

Tourists would have been flocking from the USA to Alba. Redneck tourists.

Since Artur's public demonstration of his faith and his idolising of one of Poland's greatest heroes, the radio shock jocks, the Press' berserk columnists and assorted ne'er do wells of the Laptop Loyal have been venting their spleens in the establishment media. Leckie, Traynor, Broadfoot, McInness, Jackson and a gaggle of columnists have perma-raged about the Holy Goalie, demanding punitive action. But punishment for what exactly? Being a Polish Catholic who had the temerity to, again, demonstrate his religious convictions and simultaneously wind-up the Huns.

And yet, amongst all the spleen-venting and demanding of Guantanamo Bay-style incarceration for Artur Boruc, not one of the Laptop Loyalists has dared ask, or more importantly answer, the question: why are the Huns, the Laptop Loyalists and a section of Scottish society so ‘incensed', ‘offended', ‘outraged' and ‘provoked' by Artur Boruc's T-shirt?

Is the answer, because the incensed, the offended, the outraged and the provoked are anti-Catholic bigots?

Speaking of which, the Democratic Unionist Party's MP Gregory Campbell has provided an illustration of the hypocrisy of calling himself a democrat.

In response to Artur's T-shirt, MP Gregory Campbell has tabled a Commons motion in the Westminster Parliament calling for Celtic Football Club to oppose actions “that could serve to heighten tension between players as well as supporters”.

Good to see our tax dollars are being well spent by Mr Campbell, eh? He makes the billions squandered on an illegal war seem like a wise investment.

Mr Campbell said he “deeply regretted” Artur Boruc's actions and was “saddened” that Artur had not been punished by Celtic FC.

Strangely enough, Mr Campbell has not tabled a Commons motion expressing is revulsion at the behaviour of Rangers fans or indeed Rangers Football Club for 133, 134, 135, and counting, years of unsurpassed bigotry, though that wouldn't be a vote-winner amongst ‘The Peepel' he represents. “Scotland's Shame” is not confined to Scotland, is it?

Mr Campbell said: “I am saddened that this, the latest in a series of controversial gestures by the same player which have no place in football, has not brought censure from his Club.”

Presumably Mr Campbell thinks anti-Catholic bigotry does have a place in football.

Reportedly, Mr Campblell's motion has so far been signed by four other MPs, which means there are at least five anti-Catholic bigots in Westminster.

Welcome to 21st Century, all-inclusive, multicultural and religiously tolerant Great Britain. Makes you proud, eh.

Of course, we now know that both the SFA and the SPL will not intervene regarding Artur's T-shirt, probably because “Scotland's Shame” would be even more globally exposed if the Holy Goalie was punished for demonstrating his faith. Can't see UEFA or FIFA punishing Kaka for his ‘Jesus Loves You' T-shirt or Ronaldinho for blessing himself before going onto the pitch, on leaving the pitch, before he takes a free-kick, before he takes a corner kick, whenever he scores a goal………, etc, etc, can you?

After the SFA yesterday confirmed the Holy Goalie's T-shirt was not mentioned in referee Craig Thomson's match report and therefore no action would take place, it was left to the SPL.

However, An SPL spokesman said: “Matters of this type are the SFA's province. The most we could do would be to write to Celtic to say our attention had been drawn to an incident involving one of their players. If they have the disciplinary powers at their disposal, we try to avoid double jeopardy which is two organisations pursuing the same player over the same allegation.”

And having received a match report from SPL delegate William McDougall, an SPL spokesman said: “I can confirm we have received the report and we will be studying it. We will not be discussing anything further about what is contained in the match report or how the process is moved forward. Generally speaking, if there is anything contained in the match delegate's report it is usually taken forward to the club in private. If there is any outcome at the end of the process, that may be made public. We have no authority to take individual action against any player. Our relationship is with the clubs.”

Buck passed.

With Scotland's football authorities fearful of widening the aperture of Scotland's Pandora's Box, the Laptop Loyal resorted to contacting FIFA, just as they resorted to contacting UEFA in order to attempt (but fail) to incriminate Celtic fans in Rangers' fans' sectarian cesspit.

A FIFA spokesman said: “Matters related to a given competition are handled by the relevant competition's organising body.”

Buck passed back again. It's just too hot to handle.

Meanwhile, the official spokespeepel for the Huns fans dug themselves a deeper cesspit of sectarianism.

Rangers Assembly president Jim Templeton said: “We'd have liked to have seen some kind of action. I would suggest Celtic should be doing something but so far the only comment has come from their Manager making a crass joke about Myra Hindley. The authorities appear to be terrified of upsetting Celtic in any way, shape or form. That is a worrying trend. Boruc did it for one reason and it was nothing to do with his faith. He did it to provoke Rangers fans.”

I'll ask you again, Mr Templeton: Why are Rangers fans provoked by public demonstrations of Catholicism?

Frightened of answering, in case you reveal that many Rangers fans are still fighting (sadly and tragically, quite literally) a jihad against Catholics?

And needless to say the political wing of Fascist-Fascist made an arse of itself - again.

Rangers Supporters' Trust spokesman David Edgar said: “This is simply the latest in a long line of incidents where Boruc has shown utter contempt for authorities, the police and the safety of supporters.”

The irony of a picture of a man of peace, such as Pope John Paul II, and the message “God Bless The Pope” being a danger to supporters safety.
