GORD – CLUB BEFORE COUNTRY
By Trialist
Gordon Strachan has confirmed that he has begun the process to have his international Bhoys released from international duties in order to have the Celts available for Celtic's final League match, though only time will tell how crucial the Dundee United versus Celtic match really is.
Two more wins, please Gord, two more wins.
This final SPL match will be against Dundee United at Tannadice on Thursday 22nd May, after the Huns' failed attempt to cheat by forcing the SPL to alter the fixture calendar for the Huns' and only the Huns' benefit.
Shunsuke Nakamura, Georgios Samaras, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Chris Killen, Scott McDonald, Aiden McGeady, Darren O'Dea and Artur Boruc are the international Bhoys who could have been called up for their countries during the final week of the SPL season.
However, it's Club before country, as Gordon Strachan explained: “On Friday we got a list of the different Associations we must contact. The likes of Greece have a game on May 19th for which Georgios Samaras might have been required.”
Gordon Strachan continued: “We want to keep our players here, but we have to do it in the right way in the circumstances. We love to see our players play for their countries because we like to see the lads doing well. We've already shown this year we will play our games, then everyone is available for their countries.”
Gordon Strachan added: “But the Club has to come first because we pay them to play for us. Trust me, I know what it's like to play international football. But the Club is the priority.”
Of course, the Huns would have just written a pile of fake sick notes, but we all know what a bunch of cheating, duplicitous bassas they are.
One Celt who has already expressed his willingness to put Club before country is striker Georgios Samaras, the Hoops' match-winning hero of Celtic's 2-1 win over Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday.
The Greek international, who is on loan from Manchester City, insists he'll willingly miss Greece's international against Cyprus on the 19th May in order to be available for the Celtic Cause.
Georgios Samaras said: “I am not going to play in the Cyprus game, that is for sure. I want to stay here for the final Celtic game. Greece have another friendly on May 24th in Hungary anyway and hopefully I can play there.”
Georgios continued: “I now understand how important it is to everyone here to beat Rangers in the Championship. We have two games left and all we can do is win them and hope Rangers make mistakes.”
Georgios added: “Maybe having so many matches will affect them. But they have a big squad and have handled playing more than 60 games so far pretty well so we will wait and see.”
The Huns are keeching it, Georgios. That's what their latest attempts at cheating were all about.
