CELTIC SHORTS – OOH AAH SAMARAS, SKIPPY AND AIDEN-INHO

By Trialist

According to Ronnie Cully of the Evening Times “the future of Georgios Samaras is set to be thrashed out at a crunch meeting within the next fortnight.” Tell us something we didn't already know, Ronnie.

Georgios Samaras has been on loan at Celtic from Manchester City since January and the Greek international striker has made it publicly known that he will NOT return to City, his preference being a permanent deal in Paradise, but if he is a first choice striker.

Reportedly, Celtic have first option to buy Georgios Samaras, who has scored six goals for the Cause including the recent match-winners against Aberdeen and Motherwell.

The fee is believed to be £2.5million.

Georgios Samaras is quoted: “We must sit down around the table and discuss my future. I believe that will happen at the end of the season.”

Georgios added: “I've enjoyed playing here, but it is not up to me. It is up to Celtic and Manchester City what they want.”

Meanwhile Georgios Samaras and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink have reportedly been excused international duty in order to allow the Celtic strikers to be available for the Cause on May 22nd, when we visit Tannadice to play Dundee United in the last SPL match of the season.

We await definite news about Shunsuke Nakamura, Koki Mizuno, Scott McDonald, Chris Killen, Aiden McGeady and Darren O'Dea, who all have international duties that coincide with the extended SPL season.

Meanwhile, Scott McDonald, who scored his 30th goal of the season on Saturday against Motherwell in our hard-fought 2-1 win, has insisted that winning and not performances is the most crucial thing as Celtic prepare for two must-win League matches.

Celtic currently top the SPL with 83 points and with two League games remaining - against Hibs at Celtic Park on Sunday and against Dundee United at Tannadice on Thursday 22nd May. The Huns are four points behind, but with four games remaining – Dundee United (H), Motherwell (A), St Mirren (A) and Aberdeen (A).

As the title race heats up to boiling point, Scott McDonald said: “Performances are great. It is always pleasing to win by four or five goals and put on a fantastic display for the supporters. We will always be happy with that. But the most important thing at this stage in the season is just to grind out a result no matter how ugly it is to watch.”

Skippy continued: “Getting three points on the board is what we must do, first and foremost, in our remaining two matches. Obviously, we are hoping that other teams can do us a huge favour against Rangers, but we must concentrate fully on each of our games. We have a tough match against Hibs now at home and we are looking forward to it.”

Skippy added: “Against Motherwell last weekend, we went behind and showed a lot of spirit to come back and win the match. It was great to get over the line in what was always going to be a tough game on a bad pitch. That is all that matters at this stage in the season.”

Finally, the Laptop Loyal have today widely quoted Aiden McGeady saying how the wing wizard will NOT be driven from his beloved Celtic by the boo boys and thugs.

Strangely enough, not one of the Hun hacks has the courage to say precisely why Aiden McGeady is a target for the bigots – because Aiden is a Catholic playing for Celtic who chose to represent Ireland and not Scotland.

Aiden was attacked by Rangers-supporting yobs as the young Celt left a nightclub after celebrating Celtic's recent 3-2 humping of the Huns.

Aiden was asked if he'd have been better to keep a low profile following another Huns-skelping.

Aiden responded: “No, not really. If you have a good week in work you go out and celebrate. That happens in football as well.

Aiden continued: “A lot of the time it's people who don't know anything about football and just want to have a go at you to try to get a reaction. It's the same for a lot of footballers in Glasgow, although I don't think anyone of them had it worse than Neil Lennon - and he dealt with it pretty well.”

Aiden explained: “You have to develop a thick skin, but it's not a big deal most of the time. People are either going to shake your hand or give you abuse, but they won't drive me out, not at all. Lenny had it much worse than me. It's just something that happens in Glasgow where everybody you meet is a Celtic or Rangers fan.”

Aiden added: “Everybody's involved in football in Glasgow, but some of the guys stay in Edinburgh and can walk down the street there without getting any hassle. But Glasgow is totally different. Still I wouldn't say that would drive me away from Celtic.”
