GORDON STRACHAN – ONE MORE SIGNING
By Trialist
Gordon Strachan has revealed he is looking to make one more signing for Celtic before the summer transfer window slams shut. (Well, the transfer window never closes gently, but always slams shut.)
The Celtic Manager was speaking at today's press conference to unveil the three in a row SPL Champions' fifth signing of the summer transfer window – Shaun Maloney.
Shaun Maloney joins Celtic's other new Bhoys - 23-year old winger Paddy McCourt who was signed from Derry City for £100,000, 23-year old striker Georgios Samaras who was signed from Manchester City for £1.2million, 20-year old midfielder Marc Crosas who was signed from Barcelona for £400,000 and 24-year old central defender Glenn Loovens who was signed from Cardiff City for £2.5million.
And Gordon Strachan has revealed he is looking for one more addition to his Celtic squad before the transfer window closes.
Gordon Strachan said: “We would like to get another one in and that would be us, I would imagine.”
Many in Timdom will be hoping the Celtic Manager is being economical with the truth, as Celtic require a quality striker and a quality left-back for the challenges ahead this campaign – the quest for four League Championships in a row and progression in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Gordon Strachan commented on the return of Shaun Maloney to Celtic Park after the 25-year old attacking midfielder signed a four-year deal following his transfer to Celtic from Aston Villa for a fee that could rise to £2.5million, depending on performance related add-ons.
Gordon Strachan said: “Shaun was brought up in that pressure and sometimes when people leave Celtic and that pressure is not there, they miss something in their life. People leave this footballing climate, then they say they do miss the drug, they miss that need-to-win thing.”
Gordon Strachan continued: “There will be a lot of players, and I mean a lot of players, who want to come back to Celtic. I'm sure if you ask a lot of players who have left Celtic in the last 10 years or whatever, they would love to be back here.”
Gordon Strachan added: “But I would only bring them back if I knew they could improve the team and that's why Shaun is back.”
Gordon Strachan also revealed he would look at the situation surrounding Artur Boruc after this weekend's SPL match, Celtic versus Falkirk at Celtic Park, and after he's analysed the facts regarding the Celtic goalkeeper.
Artur Boruc has been accused of breaking a curfew and going drinking with Poland international team-mates Dariusz Dudka and Radoslaw Majewski and journalists after Poland's 1-0 defeat to the Ukraine in midweek.
However, Artur Boruc has protested his innocence after he and his two team-mates were suspended by Poland coach Leo Beenhakker and the Polish FA for next month's World Cup double-header against Slovenia and San Marino.
Artur Boruc said: “Nothing like this happened. Someone wants to destroy the atmosphere that exists within the team.”
