Review of ‘The Greatest Celtic games In The World EVER'

By North Sea Bhoy

There are so many Celtic DVD/Video releases these days that it's almost impossible to keep up. So many, in fact, that most of us tend to pick and choose which ones we are going to buy and which ones we are going to copy, erm, I mean, borrow from our mates.

This is one to buy.

Despite being a late Christmas pressie from me to me, (some people just can't take a hint), I sat down with some trepidation to watch the disc. So many times in the past the presentations have been spoiled by bland commentary or introduced by someone who might not easily be described as “Celtic Minded” (Dougie Donnelly for Ghods sake!).

This time, though, Martin O'Neill guides us through proceedings, which is a huge improvement. His easy style and gentle humour add greatly to the package.

On the DVD version the menu is divided into a number of sections, each one showing action from a number of games before showing highlights from the winner in that particular category. We are led through games voted the best in the League Cup, Scottish Cup, matches against the Orcs, League deciders, UEFA Cup, European Cup Winners Cup and European Champions Cup, before we are shown footage from the game voted the greatest Celtic game in the world ever. I didn't need three guesses as to which game that would be - and I don't expect you will either.

As Martin O'Neill says in the introduction, the choices will not please everyone and he has a sly dig at some of the Celtic support by saying that, “Some of you may leave before the end”, which made me chuckle.

However, I was surprised that there is nothing from any of the recent games against Barcelona and there is no place for the Championship winning performance against St Johnstone in May 1998 (saying cheerio to 10-in-a-row), but overall it's a bloody good watch.

There are some cracking games, countless goals against the Orcs (and that's just the 6-2 game) and some matches that don't usually make it to video, like the Partizan Belgrade 5-4 result.

As usual, the production is average, as are the graphics, but I recommend that every Celtic fan should own this disc and play it to death.
